I'll keep this brief - after all the hope and hype, the nasty memories of last year are desperately trying to force their way back into my psyche. I refuse to let them, though. It's a blip, I tells you.

Plummiting from 4th to 11th in the space of 7 days is crazy. It's such a 'Coventry' thing to happen, so at least this isn't new to us. We can handle it, I guess. There was a point on Saturday when I thought we might just get lucky and cling onto top 8 though. In the end, pretty much every result when against us, leaving us 11th.

Not that this really matters in November, as we're still only 3 points away from 4th. Actually, it could and should have been a lot worse. It's all about perception really. We're just lucky we're in the Championship where bottom vs top doesn't mean a bloody thing. It's so tight, falling 7 places in a week is a bit false.

I think you can put this little run of poor form down to our inability to adapt. Whether you agree or not with how the team were playing, they'd found a pretty useful formula. Trouble is, we became so reliant on that formula that we've struggled to change our approach in the untimely absence of Clive and Ben.

I think that, more than anything else, is going to be our downfall this season. If we can't learn to alter our approach when the game calls for it, we're not going to go anywhere.

Saturday was a much-changed line-up, and it showed. We were toothless throughout, quite frankly. We lacked any sort of spark or belief. Harsh decisions obviously made our job difficult, and the chances were there to come away with something, but you never really got the impression the team believed they would.

You won't find me changing my expectations for this year in the face of this run of games. I don't think they're unrealistic with the players we have in our squad. We should be challenging for top 6. I'm not blinkered or employing any sort of bias (I probably am). I suppose that's why I've warmed to Aidy so much; I find myself sharing a lot of his views.

I read someone on Saturday night state that all 'proper' city fans knew it would take years sort things out. There's not a single part of that sentence that doesn't wind me up. 3 defeats and suddenly they've wished another 3 seasons away. That's not supporting a team. That's showing absolutely no confidence in their ability at all. It's the football equivalent of a mother refusing to take the stabilisers off her 16 year old son's bike. They've got to grow sometime - stop giving them ready-made excuses, and they might finally start to flourish.

Just need to get out of this rut we're in, first. A little bit of ruthlessness ought to do the trick.

Yes, I'm looking at you Marlene.

So we played a whole load better than we have done over the last couple of months, but still couldn't manage to win. Interesting.

Having stormed out in a huff at the final whistle on account of Coleman appearing content with a draw at home, I've now calmed myself and will reflect on things in a more placid nature. If I'd written this immediately afterwards, the post would be entitled Swineathon 2009, I'd be crucifying Clinton Morrison again, and the FC Coventry City Mönchengladbach Saint-Germain dream would be back in motion.

But I listened to fans after the match, many verging on delirium that we'd not lost, and it shocked me. I couldn't help but wonder; maybe I'm expecting too much? Maybe, even with all our players whom I swear can perform far better, we're still only a bottom 8 team?

      I hope not.

So rather than indulge myself in a bitter and ruthless analysis of the game which has become the norm over the last month or so, I'm going to keep things brief and simply run through the positives and negatives of Saturday's game.

      Positives

      - As a whole, we played better than we have been doing.
      - Barnett and Wood both look pretty athletic as a defensive pairing.
      - Michael McIndoe finally had a decent-ish game.
      - Leon Best scored again.
      - The shape of the team looked a lot more solid.

      Negatives

      - We have dropped more vital points at home.
      - The attitude of the players and manager appeared to indicate that they were content with holding on for the point.
      - Gunnarsson is still a shadow of the player we know he can be.
      - Morrison is struggling to have any sort of impact.
      - The referee - who thought that he could stop the game every 20 seconds to wag his finger around - only gave 3 minutes added time.
      - Flaming wind and rain blowing in my face.

As happy as I am that we didn't have to endure the same twaddle we've been used recently, my immediate concern is that it's only November and we're already lumbered in and around the bottom of the table.

Couple that with the fact that even if we were to do the unthinkable and win 3 in a row, we'd realistically only move up to about 13th - things aren't as rosy as many fans would have you believe.

Not after 1 home draw, that's for sure. Ipswich will vouch for where draws in this league get you.

Lord help me for daring to suggest that I'm still not satisfied after Saturday; but I want more than a point at home to Crystal Palace. Yep, I really do.

I’m sure if we had started playing keep-ball the fans would have been disappointed, but when it’s that late in the day you should probably be a bit more professional about it and settle for the one point.
Attacking and remaining professional are not mutually exclusive, Andy.

In an attempt to keep myself sane over the course of the 09/10 season, I decided to use this blog as a place to let off steam and vent my thoughts about Coventry City's progress.

That all seemed to go quite nicely (the blogging side of things, not the team performance), so two years later, and I'm still doing it - rambling away whenever there is something worth rambling about.

The plan is to focus my attention on writing in this, as opposed to indiscriminate ranting at anyone who'll listen, which always tended to be my main outlet. I never really envisaged it becoming a widely viewed Coventry City blog (as my points often annoy), but it's always good to see my posts popping up on forums with people discussing my waffle.

lt's also quite interesting to look back at how many times during the season I threaten to stop supporting them and form my own breakaway club; FC Coventry City Mönchengladbach Saint-Germain.
