View from Abroad, ou, la chronique de l’étranger

It's a personal business being a Coventry City fan. Our situation throws up complexity at every corner, provoking decisions and natural feelings; ones which are often led by cultural expectation, but are also driven by factors relevant solely to our own perspective. Barney Pell is a Sky Blues supporter living in France. Like all of us, he holds a unique perspective and back story providing the context for his affinity with Coventry City. In the first of his articles from abroad, Barney begins by pondering his own recognition of the value and meaning of "identity".

Is this the dawning of the Age of Ambivalence?

To conclude what's been a fascinating week of guest posts, I hand you over to the capable hands of Jim Lee. You know, the guy who had the audacity to promote his Twitter handle before giving Tim Fisher a right going over at one of the Summer forums. Like many, Jim's finding this season a real struggle. The football is great, and in ordinary circumstances the side would have the supporters bouncing with pride and enthusiasm. But as we know only too well, these aren't normal circumstances. We're not robots - we all cope and react to situations differently, so being able to forget the hoopla is proving difficult.

To Tom, with thanks – A few extra thoughts on the boycott

I'd like to thank Tom Furnival-Adams for contributing what is clearly a well considered and thought-provoking piece. It's a complex situation we find ourselves in, with many unknowns, and many challenges to our natural persuasions. He has outline his approach with elegance, and I'd recommend anyone reading it if they're looking for any semblance of pragmatism in this sorry affair. It's really very good. Along with publicly thanking Tom, I also wanted to contribute a few additional thoughts from my perspective, not necessarily in response to his piece, but to the discussion it has provoked. Re-evaluation and a changing landscape

The arguments persist. The moral assertions remain. There's a suggestion we're not even allowed watch Sky anymore. How can we as fans address the situation in a matter than can actually have some impact? I've had a go at figuring this out before, but it's bloody hard. In a similar attempt to reach sense, Coventry fan and writer Tom Furnival-Adams has used the time on his sickbed to do the same...

Working the problem..

As bored as many are with the moaning, unfortunately I can't reconstitute my feelings after just two games. This blog is an outlet for these continued thoughts. If my being upset about Coventry not being in Coventry offends, you should probably brace yourself. I note with great intrigue the latest effort to persuade City fans to turn up at Sixfields - suggesting we flip the current boycott to an extreme and instead turn up en masse, with the intention of making Sisu "think" and ultimately altering their position. I don't want to get into this all over again, but typically I'm going to.
