Ben Turner is currently the best player in the Championship. Word.

Actim Index update, October 28, 2010

I'm never too sure how they work these things out, but according to The Actim Index (The official rankings system of the English Football League Championship) our very own Ben Turner is top of the pile.

I called for him to show some consistency when he had a 'mare against Watford, but this is ridiculous. Good on him.

Other City players performing okay so far are Clive Platt (33), Kieren Westwood (77) and Martin Cranie (94).

I've attached the latest rankings (courtesy of http://actimindex.wordpress.com), but if that doesn't work, just visit the link above.

So, Westwood definitely wants out then

He's obviously very touchy about it, but however he tries to dress it up, I think we're all finally clear about one thing; Westwood doesn't want to be at the club much longer.

Fine, it's his prerogative to run his contract down. What I'm not particularly keen on is why he keeps saying "I've never asked to leave". It's the football equivalent of holding your hand an inch away from someone's face, and expecting them not to get annoyed. "Not touching, can't get mad".

Just because you've not said the actual words doesn't mean it hasn't happened, Keiren.

It's a tricky situation for the club, and it's not much easier for the fans. First of all, whose version of events do you believe? Westwood reckons he's not been offered an improved contact until a few weeks back, by which point he'd decided he wasn't going to sign. If Ranson's to be believed, we sat him, Gunny, Fox and Dann down back when they were at the club and offered them all improved deals.

Either way, he's not signed, he doesn't want to sign, and he's going to cost the club a whole load of money by buggering off at the end of the season.

So what can we do? He's a great keeper and in an ideal world, we'd keep him and he'd choose to sign a contract. That'd be cushty. Problem is, that's scenario Z.

Instead, do we forgive and forget and let him play out to the end of the season, then leave us high and dry? That'd keep him happy, and it might actually help us have a successful season. On the other hand, we'll be without a great keeper at the end of it, and lose £5 million in assets, or however much he's worth.

Boothroyd's already tried the alternative of showing him who's boss, and leaving him on the bench. If we do that it can go a couple of ways; Westwood stays but gets angry (which we've already seen) and leaves in January for a little bit of money. Or he stays and suddenly realises that he's got a year on the bench to contend with and inexplicably signs. Yeah, I can't see that happening either.

Argh, it really is a contractual minefield, and as you can tell by my ramblings here, I'm a little stumped as to the best way forward.

All I know is I'm struggling to be happy with a player who has given us such a blatant kick in the teeth.

Portsmouth 1 Sky Blues 1 - I fancy us at the Ricoh

After a well-earned point at Pompey, I'm confident that if we're able to put a strong team out, we're more than capable of doing them.

I'm envisaging a night like the Blackburn match last year (minus the crowd and the queues) where we really take the game to them.

Typically, I shan't get carried away by a win - I best say that now, I'm not overly concerned about a cup run this year. Yes, it's great for exposure and money-wise, but all I'm bothered about is achieving some sort of consistency in the league. Last year it turned out to be our downfall because we put too much focus on the big cup game.

That said, it was also the catalyst and really got us playing (for a month, at least) so if we win it best bloody have the same effect again. I'd be delighted.

      Best and Westwood playing..

      was good by the way.

They're our players. All realism aside, It'd be nice to think that was a statement of intent from Coleman. For once, I'd like to see signs of him telling any prospective buyers to sod off if they think we're going to do them any favours. They'll probably get them dirt cheap anyway.

I’m sure if we had started playing keep-ball the fans would have been disappointed, but when it’s that late in the day you should probably be a bit more professional about it and settle for the one point.
Attacking and remaining professional are not mutually exclusive, Andy.

In an attempt to keep myself sane over the course of the 09/10 season, I decided to use this blog as a place to let off steam and vent my thoughts about Coventry City's progress.

That all seemed to go quite nicely (the blogging side of things, not the team performance), so two years later, and I'm still doing it - rambling away whenever there is something worth rambling about.

The plan is to focus my attention on writing in this, as opposed to indiscriminate ranting at anyone who'll listen, which always tended to be my main outlet. I never really envisaged it becoming a widely viewed Coventry City blog (as my points often annoy), but it's always good to see my posts popping up on forums with people discussing my waffle.

lt's also quite interesting to look back at how many times during the season I threaten to stop supporting them and form my own breakaway club; FC Coventry City Mönchengladbach Saint-Germain.
