Hello, comrades. I’m back again, this time to promote another game wot I made. Covdle is great fun and almost everyone seems to be enjoying it – but out of the 140 or so Coventry players with 5-letter surnames in history, the sane among us will only have really heard of about 70. So that game can last us to the end of the summer, at best.
Enter WhatCovGoal. It’s another daily game for Coventry City fans, but this time, you’ve got six guesses to identify the scorer and opponent of a Cov goal – based entirely on ever-increasing exposure to a visual of that goal. So that premise alone has a far longer possible lifespan.
It’s inspired by a quiz I used to run over on twitter where I’d share a heavily pixelated portion of a goal we’d scored, and people would forever shock me with how they were able to figure out the identity of the game and goal – based on precious little.
Then I watched Catchphrase the other week and saw them playing the bonus round where they remove tiles from the image, and the game mechanism clicked. **Interlocks fingers**. WhatCovGoal was born.
As with Covdle, the game resets daily and has various levels of difficulty. Everyone will have their own recall and ability, but some days you’ll get an immediate sense from the lighting or colour of the seats – the next you’ll get a patch of grass to start with and have no clue where to begin. That’s the fun.
Saying that, day one saw 518 people play, with thirty of those managing to identify Marc McNulty’s goal vs Notts County based on a single image.
That’s the standard we’re dealing with, apparently.
