The pre-game ramble: Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury away was a watershed game for us last season - the game by which all shitty results were marked against. It also marked the end of the Richard Shaw disaster and the start of a period of relative success, and dare I say it, fun. We're paying for it now though. Heaven forbid we enjoy football for a bit. We enter this week's fixture in a different frame of mind. Still with the disgrace of Northampton very much looming over us, but at least the fans are making sure that doesn't spoil their enjoyment of the away fixtures, and this manic goal-scoring either. A full quota of the Sky Blue Army is expected at New Meadow to roar the chaps on. Good one.

Just when you thought things could get any better for the guy. Not content with scooping the big two prizes at the club's official awards dinner at the weekend, it's my pleasure to announce that the few of you who read this blog have echoed those sentiments and chosen captain Carl Baker as your player of the season. Player of the season 12/13: The shortlist

Here we are then. After such promise, yet another season is crumbling to its pitiful, gut-busting end. The temptation to drift into the summer without a cursory glance back is a strong one, but even with our abominable start and tame finish spoiling the memories as a whole - you have to admit the middle part was bloody fantastic, wasn't it? So let's offer some recognition to the players who dragged us back to a place where we could feel a little bit proud of our team, even if it was eventually annihilated by politics, arguments and financial regulation.
