Shrewsbury away was a watershed game for us last season – the game by which all shitty results were marked against. It also marked the end of the Richard Shaw disaster and the start of a period of relative success, and dare I say it, fun.
We’re paying for it now though. Heaven forbid we enjoy football for a bit.
We enter this week’s fixture in a different frame of mind. Still with the disgrace of Northampton very much looming over us, but at least the fans are making sure that doesn’t spoil their enjoyment of the away fixtures, and this manic goal-scoring either. A full quota of the Sky Blue Army is expected at New Meadow to roar the chaps on. Good one.
How are they getting on?
There was no Lamptey show this week, so I haven’t had the chance to prepare one of my world famous previews. From my cursory research, I’ve found out the following:
- 11th in the league
- Four points from the last two games
- One defeat in their opening four
They’ve had an acceptable start to the season, with a win potentially firing them into the play-off places (with a bit of luck).
Who could cause us trouble?
Young Middlesbrough striker Curtis Main has just joined on loan, joining his fellow Boro starlet Adam Reach at New Meadow. I’ve seen both play before, and these are highly regarded youngsters, with left-sided Reach in particular showing elements of quality for England U20’s in the few games I’ve seen him.
Tom Bradshaw’s also pinched himself a couple of goals this season too, so watch out for him.
Sky Blues team news
There’s a concern over Leon Clarke who has been struggling a little bit this week, meaning Gigangtor himself Mathieu Manset (Monsay, apparently) could get his opportunity to start for the first time since signing. He also has a new song, which is primed to send everyone bandy when singing it.
This game also sees the return of captain Carl Baker following his suspension. 62% of you said you wouldn’t bring him back in to the team right away, given the flow we seem to have in an attacking sense. But try telling Carl that. Given Pressley’s words this week, I think we might just see him. Plus Billy Daniels has had a bit of a stomach bug.
Using the new Sky Blues Blog Squad Selector, I’ve detailed how the team is most likely to line up.
You can have a go too – www.skybluesblog.co.uk/selector. Select your formation, choose the players you think we should play, then share it on Twitter (or save the image for your own enjoyment).
There was no Lamptey show this week so unfortunately I don’t have predictions from the rest of the guys. But this lone blogger thinks we may see the end of the high scoring this week, for no other reason than “it can’t last forever”.
Shrewsbury 1 – 2 Coventry. Back to zero points, and the season can really begin.
